Ken was
born on August 7 in Woodstock, GA. From his earliest
days, his dream was to become a leader in the music
industry. At the young age of eighteen, he began managing
his first artist, The Rock-A-Tones. Later, he managed Ken
Springer who recorded for Million Records out of Nashville,
TN. In addition to artist management, Ken worked in area
clubs booking talent through out the 1960’s
When Million
Records closed its doors in the 1972, Ken started his first
label imprint, Penny Records, signing Ken Springer as his
first act. By the early 1980’s, Ken had the opportunity to
sign the award-winning world famous country/gospel act The
Chuck Wagon Gang. It was at this point that he and his
partners decided they needed a more prestigious label name
to honor The Chuck Wagon Gang and began Copperfield Records
for that purpose. During their 70-year career, which spans
the Columbia and Copperfield years, the Gang sold in excess
of 40 million records. Not only were they a successful
southern gospel act, they were better known to audiences
through their airplay on country radio further increasing
consumer awareness winning several Music City News Awards,
SESAC, DJ Awards, and induction into the Gospel Music Hall
Of Fame.
In addition to The Chuck Wagon Gang, Copperfield Records was
home to The Northems, The Ruppes, and Naomi & The Segos.
The label also released several developing country artists
and packages by superstars like the Oak Ridge Boys/J. D.
Sumner album they distributed through K-Tel Music.
In addition to the Copperfield Records label, Copperfield
Music Group was formed to house Ken’s various music
publishing entities including Penny Annie Music (BMI), Top
Brass Music (ASCAP), and Biddy Baby Music (SESAC).
In Nashville, Ken Biddy is known for his ability to coach and
nurture developing songwriters. In the last few years,
Ken’s publishing company has been instrumental in securing
cuts on LeAnn Rimes multi-million selling “Blue”
album, Lee Ann Womack’s self-entitled platinum album,
Montgomery Gentry’s debut platinum album “Tattoos &
Scars,” Kenny Roger’s “Here You Go Again” album, Linda
Davis’s “Shoot For The Moon” album, Steve Holy’s recording
of “Just Like The Moon” for the “Wings Of A Dove” album, and
two songs by Rob Crosby called “Cool Down” and “Free Run.”
Craig Morgan also cut “Where Has My Hometown Gone” co-penned
with Jeff Carson and Phil O’Donnell for his Broken Bow debut
release, “I Love It”. In 2005, Loretta Lynn released “I Feel
Like Traveling On”, and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” on
her “The Gospel Spirit” album. Copperfield’s singles
include “Daddy Won’t Sell the Farm,” by Montgomery Gentry,
“Straight Tequila” by Trini Triggs, and “Until We Fall Back
In Love Again” by Jeff Carson.
